Weddings are so much more fun than they used to be, do not you think? They have less to do what is traditional and more to allow the bride and groom to be creative and expressive. In no part of the wedding is this more true than the cake. Make your wedding truly memorable, design, a large wedding with personality.

When your mother and grandmother were brides, wedding cakes were a color: white. They were also almost always a form: round. Not only that, but the only acceptable decorations were things like flowers, Swiss dots (especially for brides wearing pearl bridal jewelry), and bands. At the top, could be a nice little break and groom to be up, or maybe a couple of pigeons or a set of wedding bells. The cake inside was also very likely to be a basic yellow or white cake. These classic wedding cake was beautiful enough, but they did not allow much opportunity for creative expression.

When it comes to wedding cakes these days, is the only rule is that there are no rules! If you're a classic bride wearing your mother's wedding dresses and pearl jewelry, you will still have a plain white cake, even if your are more likely to get your monogram on the top than a plastic bride and groom figurine. And a white outer means not necessarily a standard flavor of cake inside. Brides and grooms choose all possible variants of spice cake to red velvet cake with rich dark chocolate.

Most couples will still choose a somewhat traditional form of their wedding cake consisting of three or five levels. Round is still the most popular, but square cakes are also very favor. Something else that is being seen more often is pastries, with levels are deliberately stacked to look crooked or crazy, and having a second form of each layer of the cake. And then there are the couple who throw all tradition out the window and have a completely custom cake made by a small three-dimensional sculpture in their preferred format. It has long been customary for the groom's cake, but now it also happens for the main Wedding cake too.

It is fun to design a wedding cake that is either the perfect expression of your wedding theme or to showcase the interests of the bride and groom (even it is not linked to the rest of the wedding). For example, if you had a tropical wedding might feature your cake an underwater scene with a wealth of colorful, tropical fish swimming in a coral reef, all made from fondant and icing. Or if you met at college, you can have your wedding cake made in your school colors. Why not take it a step further and have it play the school fight song?

There is no limit to how creative and expressive a wedding can be. Cake designers are able to do the most amazing things with cakes these days, including implementation of sound or moving parts. Of course, you may just end up with a cake that looks too incredible to eat!
